We are an organization affiliated with Vietnam Veterans of America, working side by side for the betterment of Vietnam-era veterans, their families and other veterans.

Our mission is to advance the work of Vietnam Veterans of America, NJ Chapter 899, through cooperative projects and programs.

Our goals are to increase our membership, establish an organization with elected officers and be able to carry on all the important programs that benefit the Vietnam Veterans now and in the future.

OUR CURRENT PROJECTS:

* Along with VVA 899 members, we attend Monday night visits to the Warrior Transition Unit at Fort Dix.  The purpose is to bring food for the soldiers and spend some time talking and socializing with them.  These soldiers have been injured but are close to recovery.  This is a very popular activity with the soldiers and seems to get bigger and better each Monday.  Some members who are not able to go to Fort Dix, prepare and donate food and money.  We are always looking for more members to join us.

* We attend and participate in the Chapter's monthly meetings.  Although AVVA members are not allowed to actually vote on issues, we still get involved with discussions.

* We attend the State Council VVA meetings which are held at various Chapter locations in the State.

* We help with the planning, cooking and serving food for the Patriot's Breakfast hosted by Chapter 899 to honor soldiers from Fort Dix.

* We assist and participate in all the fund raising projects conducted by Chapter 899 and also with their Scholarship program.

* We run bus trips to Atlantic City with all profits going to Chapter 899.  In the past two years, we have had over 12 bus trips and averaged a profit of close to $1000.00.  Recently we have invited soldiers to come with us to AC, giving them a "day off" from Fort Dix.

AVVA MEMBERSHIP ELIGIBILITY:

Membership in AVVA is open to anyone.  Our members include spouses, parents, children and friends of Vietnam veterans.  All veterans are welcome to join AVVA.  Veterans who served during the Vietnam era (February 28, 1961 to May 7, 1975) may join as non-voting members.
