The pictures below are from LZ Uplift and Bong Song area, most were taken by me. I found an interesting picture
by Joe King, I didn't know existed.
Row 2 Pic 3 was taken at night showing the tracers from
a Quad 40, on Duster Hill overlooking our LZ as they fired over our heads around the perimeter. This is what usually
happened during or after a mortar attack since the enemy would hide in caves in the mountains. If you click
on the photo and look close you can see the mountains that match the daytime photo in Row 4 Pic 2 of LZ Uplift
that I took.
Row #4 Pic #1 is a Huey taking off from the top of Duster Hill taken by me. Row 3 Pic 4
is a B-52 strike on the same mountains from the chopper pad on LZ Uplift. I will add more photos as I scan them.
Newly added are the first 3 pics. The first is a perimeter bunker around the LZ where a rat jump on my arm and
ran down my M-60 machine gun (in the pic) and jumped to the ground. Of course it was dark at the time and a night I
will never forget. The 3rd is of a USO show at LZ Uplift, the only one we had, I couldn't tell you who they were,
just some American's who cared about us I guess, but they were American girls, something we rarely got to see over there.
The 2nd is some VC prisoners brought in for questioning by the 173rd Airborn on the chopper pad behind my hootch.
The 4th is some guys at Ple Mrong, shows you some of our living conditions.
If you have pics to add, email them
to me and I will post them here. michael at VVA899 dot org.
