VETERANS OF AMERICA CHAPTER 899
2011 JOHN J. PENROSE JR. MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
$1000 SCHOLARSHIP AWARD
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
· An
applicant must:
1. Be a senior in a Burlington County High School.
2.Have maintained a grade point average of “C” (or the numerical equivalent) or higher
for the last academic year.
3. Plan to attend, full or part time, an accredited college or
other institution of higher learning such as an
accredited vocational or technical institute.
APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS
·Must include the following:
1. A
completed scholarship application form.
2. A current transcript.
3. A letter of acceptance from the institution where the applicant plans to use
the scholarship.
Letters of acceptance
may be submitted subsequent to the application submittal deadline but
must be submitted before acceptance of any scholarship award.
4.One of the following:
A. A typed essay reflecting
upon your visit to the New Jersey Vietnam Veterans’ Memorial in Holmdel, NJ.
(Tours are available and can be scheduled by calling the Memorial at 1-800-648-8387).
B. A
typed essay reflecting upon your visit to the Vietnam Veterans’ Memorial in Washington, D.C.
C.A
typed essay reflecting upon an interview you had with a Vietnam Veteran.
All essays MUST be between 400-500 words.

5. All applications MUST be received no later than April 30th, 2011. The
Scholarship Award will be presented at the May 28th, 2011 regular Chapter meeting at the Bordentown Senior Center on Municipal Drive in Bordentown. Chapter meetings begin

GENERAL APPLICATION INFORMATION
· All application materials and submitted essays become the property of VVA Chapter 899.
·Applications will be kept as part of the Chapter’s records for a period
of at least six months after the latest application deadline.
·All conflicts will be reviewed and voted on by the Board
and any voting decision made by a majority of Board Members
present will be a final and binding decision.
