Getting Involved

Not everyone wants to get involved in the same way. We don't pressure volunteers into assignments but rather ask that you become involved only if you feel the task is right for you.  When we need help we will ask, how much you participate is entirely up to you.  Some things we do are more rewarding than others, however fund raising is an important task of any organization and once or twice a year we have "Poppy" drives to solicit donations for our projects.

Volunteer Your Time

Since we are relatively new Chapter our programs are limited but we are proactive and continue to get involved.  Currently we are involved in the "Welcome Home Mission" at Ft. Dix and give a hearty welcome home to soldiers returning on flights from Iraq.  We also send off the soldiers and wish them well from McGuire AFB and give chapter bookmarkers to all those departing for theater.  Spending time with the wounded and sick at the Warrior Transition Unit is another mission that takes a special type of person and takes place once a week from 7PM until late morning hours.  Lastly we are heavily involved with the Children and Families of the deployed soldiers in an Army Community Services program called "Hearts Apart".  We have parties for the children all year and give gifts and gift certificate for food from the commissary.

If you would like to join our Chapter and are not a Vietnam Veteran you can join as an Associate Member.  Associates do the same things the regular veterans do except for elections of Officers.  The best thing to do is come out to a meeting, if you like what you see you can join then.  It will be the best twenty dollars you've spent in a long time and get a return that money can't buy.

Here is how to contact us and our email address:

We meet at the Senior/Community Center on Municipal Drive, Bordentown Township, NJ, 08505, next to the Police and Court bldgs. on Saturdays at 1PM.  A light lunch is always served during the break.  Use the map below or call for directions.

You can contact the Chapter President via email at michael at vva899 dot org or call 609.324.0455 during business hours.  Please do not call this number for clothing pick ups.  See donation pick up page for the 800 number.

When we first started sending the soldiers off to Iraq at McGuire AFB we found that somehow just saying Good Luck was not enough.  We didn't have money to buy Phone Cards for everyone so we gave some good advise and a piece of our Hearts to take with them.  Hopefully when it matters the most someone will pull out this Book-marker and remember the person who gave it to them survived, and they will too.  The marker we give to every soldier leaving McGuire AFB is just to the left.
